Mystics Rally Past Sun 92-84 Behind Citron's Efficient 22-Point Night.
The Washington Mystics erased a seven-point first-quarter deficit to earn a hard-fought 92-84 victory over the Connecticut Sun Tuesday night at CareFirst Arena. Improving to 15-12 on the season, Washington controlled the middle two quarters, outscoring Connecticut 53-31 to take command and secure its third straight win.
Washington’s offense was led by Sonia Citron, who turned in one of her most efficient performances of the season. The guard finished with 22 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line. Citron also filled the stat sheet with 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal, providing an impactful performance on both ends of the floor.
In the front court, Kiki Iriafen continued her impressive stretch with her third consecutive double-double, recording 20 points and 10 rebounds in 29 minutes. Despite facing constant defensive pressure, Iriafen converted 8-of-22 field goal attempts while adding 2 assists, 1 block, and just one turnover, once again establishing herself as a dominant force in the paint.
Shakira Austin delivered another complete performance, finishing with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 2 steals, and 1 block in 32 minutes. Austin shot 7-of-16 from the floor and consistently made her presence felt on the defensive end, protecting the rim while helping limit Connecticut’s opportunities in the second half.
The Mystics received key contributions throughout the rotation. Cotie McMahon added 11 points off the bench, knocking down 7-of-8 free throws, while Lauren Betts provided valuable interior minutes with 8 points, 8 rebounds, and a block. Rookie point guard Georgia Amoore chipped in 8 points, 5 assists, and 2-of-3 shooting from three-point range to help keep.
Their balanced scoring, defensive intensity, and ability to respond after a slow start proved to be the difference as Washington closed out the 92-84 victory and continued building momentum in the WNBA playoff race.
