Mystics Escape Tempo on Citron’s Buzzer-Beater.

The Washington Mystics thrilled the home crowd at CareFirst Arena on Friday night, edging Tempo 86-85 in dramatic fashion.

With just 2.1 seconds remaining, Sonia Citron delivered the game-winning basket after Lauren Betts won the jump ball and tipped it directly to Citron, who knocked down the decisive two-pointer as time expired.

Citron finished with 17 points and 5 assists, while Lauren Betts led all Mystics scorers with 18 points. Michaela Onyenwere nearly recorded a double-double, contributing 17 points and 8 rebounds. Meanwhile, Shakira Austin controlled the paint with a double-double performance of 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The victory showcased Washington’s resilience, as the Mystics stayed composed in the closing moments and found a way to secure a thrilling one-point win in front of their home fans.
